New ETLive Member

Greetings Enemy Territory Fans!

My name is Timothy ‘nomak’ Rogers. I am the most recent addition to the ET Live team and have been added as the lead Community Manager for the ET Live project. My main job responsibility is communicating the status of the project, in a clear and concise manner, to the community.

Community is the life blood of any game and maintaining a strong relationship with all of you is critical to our success. My goal is to keep you up-to-date and informed on what’s going on with the development process.

A little bit about my experience with Enemy Territory, I first played the game when the free Demo came out that only contained the Beach map. I was instantly hooked and played it for hours. I moved on to the full game once it released and began playing casually on pubs (Locked Box anyone?). We played every day and eventually created a clan. I ran a team through CAL (for those who still remember it) and TWL for what became years. I was their from the beginning and played the game competitively – so I have a broad spectrum of experience with the game.

My experience playing competitive ET is among my favorite gaming memories. Enemy Territory is the best competitive team game ever released. At this point though, I have played every high profile FPS/MMO/MOBA and can say that ET is by far still my favorite. I really want to bring it back to its former glory and will do my best to help make this project a success.

Throughout the course of this venture, I hope to inspire as many of you as possible with the passion and enthusiasm I have for the Enemy Territory game and this project in particular. I will be here to answer any questions you have about the project, and if I don’t know it, I’ll get you an answer. Please help support the ET Live project by becoming part of our community! Add us on Facebook, Twitter, and read our website!

Help support the ET revival!

ETLive inside info: the Engine

As you might already know, ETLive will use ET:Legacy for the game code base.
So, for those who actually don’t know what ET:Legacy is, here’s a description from the ETLegacy FAQ Page.

What is ET:Legacy?

ET:Legacy is based on the source code of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory which was released under the GPLv3 license.
The main goal of this project is to fix bugs, remove old dependencies and make it playable on all major operating
systems while still remaining compatible with the ET 2.60b version and as many of its mods as possible.” (source: http://www.etlegacy.com/projects/etlegacy/wiki/FAQ )

We would like to thank the ET:Legacy Team for their effort and the almost endless list of bug fixes.

But why ET:Legacy and not 2.60b?

We believe in ET:Legacy. They are professional developers and do a great job with fixing the bugs.
This makes it possible for us, to focus on the ETLive part, while having always a best maintained Enemey Territory Code.

If you would like to help us and are not one of the lucky alpha testers, consider joining the ETLegacy Team.
They always need developers and good testers.

So go ahead and take a look at ET:Legacy at  www.etlegacy.com.

We’re still alive!

We’re still alive!

We know that you all are waiting for the start and the first first impressions of the ETLive private alpha test.

We are sorry for the delay of the start. Our plan was to work during the Xmas/New Years break on ETLive, but fortune had other plans with us.
Apologet had a flu for more then 3 weeks and was the whole time laying in the bed. Dutchmeat was swamped with school work(multiple projects) starting from the Xmas break until this week. Also his laptop broke down so he wasn’t able to work for a week or so.

So, where do we go from here?
Well we’ve already made a selection from the alpha testing application list and the next step is to create the accounts for all the testers out there.
This will take a little while since we have multiple databases and applications we need to update in order to give everyone access to the appropiate sections.

Meanwhile we will have to finish implementing the web functionality into our new design.

We will keep you guys posted about the progress.

Also a new article will arive soon about the engine we’re using, ET:Legacy.

Happy new year :)

The ETLive crew.

End of alpha Applications

Applications for the ETLive private Alpha have now closed.

Thanks to all of you who have applied!
Our Team will now review the massive list of applications (about 350!) and select 50 alpha testers. Because of the large amount of applications, the selection process will take some days.

As we mentioned before, you will only receive a response from us if you are accepted to the alpha. But don’t be disappointed if you don’t belong to the first 50 alpha candidates. As soon as we consider the platform for stable enough, we will expand the tester list and invite the next group of players from the current applications list.

We would also like to mention that the people who didn’t get an alpha test invite can still help us by testing ET:Legacy. ET:Legacy is the base engine we’re using for ETLive, so if that’s running smoothly, so will ETLive. In the near future we will post a more informative article later this week about ET:Legacy.

ETLive alpha test application

ETLive alpha tester application

About the test:
We will start with the private Alpha Test within the next weeks and therefore we are looking for motivated testers.
For our first alpha version we will only test the Windows version using Mozilla Firefox.
Due to the number of applications we expect to get, you will only hear from us if you are chosen to be a tester.

About the application:
To participate in the private alpha tests, we need some information from you.
It’s important for us to get a feedback about the gameplay, bugs, glitches and your general impression about ETLive.

With applying for alpha test, you become a member of the ETLive Tester Team.
You are not allowed to publish bugs or use them for your advantage. You do not publish any security issues you might find. You will report them to the developers only.

Applications form is closed!

ETLive vs. etizb

You might have heard about “etizb – ET in ze Browser” in the last days and might wonder how this effects our project or vice versa.

We just had a nice meeting with the Developer from etizb (greetings to “n\a” ;-) ) and here are the results:

- etizb is far away from being in alpha status. At the moment it’s more a collection of some code that works together but isn’t playable and won’t be playable in near future.

- etizb ‘s target is to make something with ET and meet nice people. (so we did ;-) )

- etizb main target: peace on earth

- etizb is a fun project for people who like to contribute and like to figure out by their own how things are working.

We discussed the different techniques but had to realize, that it’s not that compatible as we hoped in the beginning. etizb is a Java Applet which starts the game and handles key input from browser to the game, since we are using a C++ Browser Plugin and run the Game directly in the Browser Window.

Our goal is to bring Players easily into the game without struggleing with installation issues.  The etizb project is more for experts. You should know what you are doing when using/working with etizb.

I really enjoyed talking to “n\a” and would like to thank him for his offer, to use his new/improved Net code when it’s stable enough for productive usage.

We will stay in contact and are glad to have found nice people, enjoying the same hobby we do.

We wish “n\a” good luck with etizb and are happy to see that there are still a lot of people working on Enemey Territory.

ETLive announcement

So from the title, you may be asking questions or already have some idea of what this project is. Basically ETLive, is Enemy Territory, the game we all play and love within a web browser. ETLive is a multi-platform, multi-browser implementation of Enemy Territory, with very similar intentions to that of Quake Live.

Overview

This project will contain an entirely new way of playing Enemy Territory. Users will be able to create their account and play instantly after downloading the browser plugin and downloading the base of ETLive. One major issue this resolves with ET, is that it eliminates issues in players finding their first game, going from 2.55 to 2.60 and then to 2.60b, and then having to proceed to download a vast number of pk3 files when they finally get on to joining a server.
Once your account has been created on ETLive, and you are ready to play, you can invite your friends using the in-browser buddy system or join your friends in their games in progress.
As the current releases of Enemy Territory, ETLive will have dedicated servers, but with more functionality. ETLive supports ranking and achievements, meaning that you can play your games for profile achievements and work to build your score up and possibly work your way up leader-boards, or just outrank your friends. Of course achievements are not entirely the focus of the game, and they’re there just to improve your experience and enjoyment of the game. YCN will be supporting game-servers on ETLive and are closely working with the development and helping as much as possible to ensure that this project is as enjoyable and successful as possible.

Competitive support

Of course if there is YCN, there will be GamesTV! We hope that the release will swiftly also have a TV protocol similar to the current features and performance of the current protocol, this should ensure that the competitive scene is taken care of also in the potential move over to ETLive. The competitive side of Enemy Territory is also important to the success of ETLive, we have also been in talks with TZ-AC about the future of anti-cheat on a new Enemy Territory client and anti-cheat will be implemented into ETlive from day one.

Unique features

As we mentioned before, it is hard for new gamers to join, however with the appearance of the currently client, players may be discouraged to try ETLive also. We are considering potentially improving the appearance of the client for ETLive which will possibly bring in new players. Another feature is potential new game modes such as Domination, which is in current Call of Duty style games.

Current setbacks

You may be thinking “Well this is just going to go a month and be forgotten”, well ETLive has currently been on and off in development for a long time, and has been kept quiet to avoid legal issues. Ideas have come to light about how to avoid these, and keep ETLive as secure as possible, and ETLive is in a stage at the moment where it is loaded into the browser and playable. We say this but please note, it is a far way to go.

Who are we?

ETLive is a very small project at this time, and there are only 2 main developers, and other people who are contributing other stuff into the project. The two developers are Kai “Apologet” Rathmann, and Eamon “Dutchmeat” Woortman. Both developers are from the RTCW scene in the past, and have ran communities in Enemy Territory and RTCW in the past.

The near future

The intention now is to release a closed Alpha by December and to have basic LUA support from day one. The Alpha will be very limited and unfortunately only invitational, however we will keep you updated on the development at our website which will contain development news at http://etlive.entirely.pro/ where we and YCN are active.
Be sure to follow our progress and keep up to date on our website, we promise to keep you updated with news and updates.
